I oversee all functions of the university’s Office of Marketing and Communications, including public relations and communications, creative, marketing and website. It’s my responsibility to lead our strategic planning efforts, creating an annual plan that sets our focus areas while aligning with the university’s Strategic Framework. We then work from that blueprint throughout the year, setting quarterly goals and metrics that align with our plan. A few of the larger initiatives that I led include launching the university’s new brand, a redesign of the university website and restructuring our office to create better alignment with the university’s priorities. My day-to-day also includes overseeing a team of nine people, managing the department budget and serving as the editorial director of the Queens Magazine.

I worked to promote the people, programs and initiatives at Ohio State in order to enhance the university’s brand image and drive choice. I crafted stories that aligned with the brand narrative, and those stories were tailored to various audiences such as current students, prospective students, faculty and alumni. My responsibilities included curating, researching and writing content for multiple platforms including the main Ohio State web page, the alumni magazine, video channels and social media. I also led story project teams, which involved coordinating assets from various departments in order to enhance story production. I worked closely with communicators from college units in order to maximize story reach.

In Administration and Planning, I worked with a diverse group of units that all serviced the university in different ways: public safety, facilities, transportation, printing and planning. My role within A&P Communications was just as diverse as the units I served. I became the department's one-man video unit, introducing video as a new marketing platform. I also developed content and strategy for several social media channels and then continually posted engaging content to those platforms. My day-to-day role also included writing media releases, fulfilling media requests and serving as an on-camera spokesman. I also led the creation of integrated marketing campaigns and strategies for various initiatives, and then measured the effectiveness by comparing outcomes against our clear goals and objectives. My duties also included posting text, photos and video to multiple web sites using our content management system.

One of our big priorities was making sure we were continually focusing on enhancing the Ryan Homes brand throughout the sales process and also through our marketing campaigns. It was also my responsibility to coordinate with other team members, including our mortgage staff and project managers, to ensure timely delivery of the home and a positive experience for the buyer.

I worked primarily for the 11 p.m. newscast, covering everything from a zoo animal escape to presidential visits. As a reporter, I was expected to bring new story ideas to the table every day and then work with producers and photographers to execute them. During my time at WNCN-TV, I was a true multi-media journalist. That meant I was responsible for everything from developing stories, shooting and editing them and then appearing on camera too. I also wrote specific versions of stories for the web and posted them using our content management system. I spent much of my time covering county and city government, working hard to develop sources who I could rely on for information and story ideas.

I was a weekday reporter and weekend anchor/producer at the Binghamton market's top-rated news station. I was responsible for curating stories and then working with team members, including producers and photographers, to execute them for broadcast. During the weekend newscasts, I also supervised a staff of reporters and photographers. I covered everything from historic flooding to political scandals, and was proud to earn several AP awards along the way.
